Prof. dr hab. Zygmunt Mazur

Zygmunt Mazur is a graduate of the Jagiellonian University and of Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, USA. He was also awarded a scholarship at Harvard University. He holds a Ph.D and a habilitation from the Faculty of Philology of the Jagiellonian University. Though he is professionally associated mainly with Institute of English Studies at UJ, he worked also at the University of Bordeaux in France, at Troy University in Alabama, USA, and the University of Northern Iowa, USA. He gave guest lectures at many European universities (including Exeter, London, St. Andrews, Cologne, Padua, Rome, Salzburg, Geneva, Zurich, Lausanne) and several American universities (including Middle Tennessee State University and University of California, Santa Cruz).

Zygmunt Mazur’s research interests include American fiction of the second half of the 20th century and the ecological trend in contemporary American poetry. He is the author of over fifty scholarly publications, including the book-length monographs The Representation of History in Post-War American Fiction (Universitas, 2001), and From Myth to Ecology: The Poetry of W. S. Merwin (Jagiellonian University Press, 2018). He has co-edited over a dozen collective volumes. He is the editor of the popular College Anthology of American Literature, and co-editor of The College Anthology of English Literature.

At the Institute, he lectures on American Literature and US History, and conducts MA seminars. He chairs the Department of the History of American Literature and Culture. He also teaches at the State Higher Vocational School in Tarnów.
