The European Joint Master's Programme in English and American Studies

The European Joint Master’s Programme in English and American Studies is a full time master's programme. It is completed over 2 years with a total of 120 ECTS credits offered by 8 partner universities. In the course of the studies, the student will complete one mobility semester at a partner university. The programme offers specialized academic training in English and American Studies focusing on the three core areas of literature, linguistics and cultural studies.

MOBILITY PARTNERS and DOUBLE DEGREE

The universities in the consortium work together to provide a high quality international curriculum with regional aspects. On completion of the course, the graduate will be awarded a double diploma (Master of Arts in English and American Studies) if the mobility semester was completed at a degree-awarding university. Students interested in the programme apply to one of the degree-awarding universities of the consortium partners at their entrance university but will be able to draw on the expertise and focus of all the partners in the context of the joint programme.

The degree-awarding partner universities are:

  • Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Germany

  • Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Austria

  • Université de Paris, France

  • Ca’ Foscari University Venice, Italy    

  • Jagiellonian University in Kraków

The mobility partners are:

  •  City College of the City University New York, USA

  •  University of Pécs, Hungary

  •  Autonomous University in Barcelona, Spain

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The programme is addressed to graduates with the equivalent of a Bachelor’s or Diploma Degree in English and / or American Studies (180 ECTS). Graduates from different fields of studies can be admitted if the completed programme is judged to be equivalent in the regular admission procedure of the university for which the student applies.

Students who have not yet finished their bachelor courses can also apply for the programme. However, they should state in their application when they expect to obtain the degree. Candidates selected by the consortium recruitment committee will need to be able to provide their diplomas by the time they register at their entrance university for the European Joint Master's Programme in English and American Studies.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The application is a two-step process. The applicants first recruit with the consortium, and on being provisionally accepted by the committee, they follow the recruitment process with the selected entrance university.

The first stage of recruitment will open on 15 January and close on 30 March 2021.

In the online application process with the consortium, candidates need to provide the following documents:

  • University diploma + English translation

  • Diploma supplement + English translation (if provided by your university)

  • Transcript of university records + English translation

  • Curriculum Vitae (in English)

  • Letter of motivation for participation in the Joint Degree Master’s Programme (in English)

  • Two academic letters of recommendation (in English): Should your referees prefer to send the letters confidentially, they can send them via e-mail to Vanja Novak at the Office of International Relations of the University of Graz (vanja.novak@uni-graz.at)

  • Certificate of English Language Proficiency (Or: grade 4 and above in Practical English examination for the Jagiellonian University students).

Applicants should be advised that only the following certificates will be honoured by the consortium:

  •  Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) PASS

  •  Michigan ECPE (Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English) PASS

  •  Trinity ISE 3 (Integrated Skills in English) PASS

  •  Pearson PTE Academic MINIMUM SCORE 76

  •  IELTS MINIMUM OVERALL SCORE 7

  • TOEFL Internet-based test MINIMUM SCORE 98

Step Two of the Recruitment Procedure: When the candidates receives the letter of provisional acceptance to the programme from the coordinator at the entrance university, they must register with the entrance university.
