Dr hab. Bożena Kucała, prof. UJ

Head of the Department of Comparative Studies in Literature and Culture in the Institute of English Studies since 2014. Graduate of the Institute of English Studies at the Jagiellonian University; also studied at the University of Kent, Canterbury, and the University of Edinburgh; recipient of The Corbridge Trust scholarship (Robinson College, University of Cambridge). Her habilitation book Intertextual Dialogue with the Victorian Past in the Contemporary Novel (Frankfurt am Main: Peter Lang, 2012) analysed intertextuality in neo-Victorian fiction. Research interests: contemporary British fiction, the historical novel, neo-Victorian fiction.

2011-12 co-ordinated (with Dr Izabela Curyłło-Klag) a Visegrad project entitled “Confronting the Burden of History. Anglophone Literature Studies in V4 countries.” Co-organised: 21st Conference of the Polish Association for the Study of English in Kraków in 2012; „Travelling Texts: Encounters of Literatures” − an international conference on comparative literature, Kraków, 2014; seminars: “Repetition, Replication and Retelling in 21st Century Fiction,” Institute of English Studies, Kraków, 2018; “Ellipsis: Silence, Absence and Noncommunication in Contemporary Literature,” Institute of English Studies, Kraków, 2019; „Academic Fiction,” Institute of English Studies, Kraków, 2019. A member of the Polish Association for the Study of English (PASE), European Society for English Studies, Polish Association for Irish Studies, Historical Fictions Research Network.

Teaches courses in English literature (Victorian to contemporary).
