Mr Piotr Pieńkowski

Upon graduating from the Institute of English Studies in 1982 he joined the faculty and has remained its member ever since,  holding the position of a senior lecturer. His main research and professional interests are theory and practice of translation and interpreting, American literature, history of ideas and electronic media.

In 1982-1990 he was one of the editors of the clandestine, anti-Communist socio-political journal "Arka" published in Kraków. In 1989 he received a POLCUL Foundation Award in the field of independent journalism.

In 1997 he was nominated the Director of the Polish Academic Information Center (PAIC) in Buffalo, NY, where he spent a year managing the Center.

He received numerous scholarships and fellowships to research and teach at US universities (NCSU, UNC-CH, SUNY at Buffalo and Albany) and at British universities (Oxford, Canterbury, St.Andrews).

He was the founder and the director of studies (in 2006-2011) of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the Tischner European University in Kraków.

He is also a translator and an interpreter.
